GA Job Description

General Residence Life Job Responsibilities and Requirements

  • Review, educate, and adhere to, residential policies, University policies, as well as federal, state and local law.
  • Enforce all federal, state, local laws, and University policies as needed according to procedures in the WLU Student Handbook.
  • General knowledge of all aspects of the WLU Student Handbook and Student Conduct process.
  • Maintain a minimum GPA that maintains academic good standing, varies based on position.
  • Maintain full time student status, 12 credit hours for undergraduate and 6 credit hours for graduate level, each semester.  Exceptions to this policy must be reviewed and approved or denied by the Executive Director of Housing & Student Life.
  • Assist in building operations as assigned/needed (i.e. check in, check out, inventory/maintenance reports, emergency response and training, etc.)
  • Notes and reports maintenance concerns, and then follows up on those concerns.
  • Complete weekly report detailing specific information to submit to direct supervisor.
  • Complete specified number of hours in the Wellness Center and/or Krise Fitness Center as desk worker, weekly.
  • Is responsible for and takes pride in the appearance of the residential area of management and takes appropriate steps to ensure it is properly cleaned and maintained.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding student records, student behavior and residence life information.
  • Maintains regular communication with direct supervisor and central staff as needed/appropriate.
  • Assists/Coordinates residential programming events as required.
  • Remains on campus for closed weekends, including but not limited to: Homecoming, Open House, etc.
  • Spends no more than 2 weekend per month and 1 night per week away from assigned residential facility.
  • Attends weekly staff meetings for building
  • Attends monthly all-staff meetings as required by central staff.
  • Attends bi-weekly meeting with direct supervisor.

Graduate Assistant Specific Responsibilities

  • Maintain a minimum 2.25 GPA each semester and overall in order to maintain academic good standing with the University.
  • Participates in central staff duty weeknight and weekend rotation.
  • Manages emergency situations.
  • Remain on campus through closing at breaks and end of semesters.
  • Assist in opening of residential facilities for fall and spring semesters.
  • Facilitate roommate/suitemate/floormate mediation as needed.
  • Complete lockouts as needed.
  • Serve as an information resource for residents.
  • Serve as a student advocate for residential students.
  • Build community within residential area.
  • Develop and facilitate training sessions for residence life staff.
  • Complete 20 office hours in Housing Office weekly.

GA for Social Media Specific Responsibilities

  • Daily management and support for social media for Enrollment and Student Services (ESS) Division, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat.
  • Create student, faculty and staff spotlights to use on web and social media and email communications for ESS Division.
  • Implement and coordinate recruiting effort through social media (i.e. Snapchat takeovers, etc.)
  • Assist with recruitment event social media contests.
  • Create content for social media and other marketing efforts for ESS.

GA for Housing & Wellness Specific Responsibilities

  • Assist in management of Wellness Center and Krise Fitness Center.
  • Coordinate staff and schedules for Wellness Center and Krise Fitness Center.
  • Assist in ADA Compliance for Housing & Student Life, especially record keeping, coordination of services, and communication to appropriate staff and with students.
  • Implement and coordinate campus wellness programs with Counseling and Student Health Services.
  • Assist in Counseling Services and Student Health Services Offices as needed.

GA for Student Conduct Specific Responsibilities

  • Assist in data collection and analysis for federal and state record keeping, i.e. Clery Act Compliance and HEPC reports.
  • Conduct research on best practices and make suggestions for changes to student conduct processes.
  • Assist in investigations and interviews regarding violations of University policy, federal, state or local law.
  • Conduct student conduct administrative meetings regarding student violations that occur both on and off campus.
  • Assist in coordinating and facilitating student conduct hearings.
  • Assist in training student conduct hearing boards and other relevant campus entities.
  • Assist in managing records and requests for background checks of student conduct files.

Fall 2023 Move In

Friday, Aug. 18th – New Students

Saturday, Aug. 19th – Apartments/Houses for Returning Students

Sunday, Aug. 20th – Residence Halls for Returning Students

Early Arrivals for Organizations and Athletic Teams will be coordinated between the director/coach and housing.  The director/coach will communicate the information to the students.

Students may request Early Arrival online.  Be detailed in reasons for consideration, not all requests can be approved.

Aug 21: Classes Begin

Aug 31: Last Day to enroll/add classes

Sep 4: Labor Day – Holiday (No classes, offices closed)

Oct  13: Midterm/first half courses end

Oct 13: Fall Holiday (No classes, offices open)

Oct 16: Second half courses begin

Oct 16: Preregistration for Spring Semester begins

Oct 17 & 18th: RA Selection Interest Meetings

Nov 22-24: Thanksgiving Break (No classes, offices closed)

Dec 1: Last day of classes

Dec 4-7: Final Exams

Dec 7: Residence Halls close at 7pm to non-graduates

Dec 8 – Commencement

Dec 8 – Residence Halls close for graduates at 7pm
