The West Liberty University Financial Aid Office is committed to keeping our students and families up to date during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are closely monitoring ongoing changes from the US Department of Education and the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission as well as from WLU. We will continue adding updates to this page as we have more information.

We are pleased to announce that WLU has received donations to initiate a new emergency fund to be used by students affected by COVID-19. It is especially important to the WLU Foundation and its generous donors that eligible students are able to focus on their studies and not worry about affording their education. CARES Act Information
The CARES Act for higher education is an emergency relief fund that provides grant funding to institutions. The purpose of this emergency grant is to help support eligible student whose lives have been disrupted by the shift to online classes and are facing financial challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. U.S. Department of Education Information on Federal Student Aid Updates
- COVID-19 Forbearance Info for Students, Borrowers, and Parents
- The US Department of Education officially announced Wednesday, March 25, 2020 it has stopped requests to withhold the wages, tax refunds, and Social Security benefits of borrowers who are in default on their Federal student loans for at least the next 60 days as a means of relief, and has directed private collection agencies to stop pursuing defaulted borrowers as well.
West Liberty University Academic Scholarships
- The ACT Residual is an on-campus testing program that is available to students who were unable to test on a national test date. ACT Residual Testing is limited only to students who have enrolled, been admitted, or have officially applied to WLU. Scores from Residual Testing are reported only to WLU for admission, course placement, and advising purposes. - West Liberty University will be providing incoming students with greater flexibilities in qualifying for our Academic Scholarships for the 2021-2022 academic year. With national ACT and SAT testing currently limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic, students will be able to use scores from our residual test, which is the same as the national ACT but administered, scored, and accepted by WLU.

Private Student Loan Borrowers
Students are encouraged to check with their private education loan lenders to see if they are offering to delay or suspend borrowers’ payments. Some private education lenders are also offering students extended payment plans and other types of assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic.
