February 10, 2020 By WLU Webmaster

West Liberty University’s education is competitive, providing an inexpensive yet high-value education.  West Liberty University even secured the 2nd spot for Best College in West Virginia and the 37th position for Best Regional Colleges in the South. The goal of the university is to enrich students by providing guidance, involvement, and engaging opportunities to serve the educational, intellectual, and social interests of the student community. West Liberty University’s unique location gives it a technological advantage, having the best technology for a 150-mile radius. This helps set West Liberty University apart from other schools.

The Physician Assistant program at West Liberty University is an incredibly diverse program which has worked tirelessly integrate training involving recent health crisis, drug abuse, and to prepare students with the best practices. It holds the only Masters of Science in Physician Assistant Studies degree for a public institution in the state of West Virginia. Program Director Dr. William Childers, Jr. explains “It’s a big moment for students enrolled in West Liberty University’s Master of Physician Assistant Studies program, and it signifies the acceptance of all the duties, responsibilities and work involved in caring for the health and welfare of all future patients.”

Since Physician’s Assistants work closely with Physicians, they are educated in a medical school style model, which helps train them the way a primary care provider operates. Primary care remains a core value and foundational education element West Liberty University’s Physician Assistant program. It requires students to complete the ARC-PA program and pass the national NCCPA to be eligible to practice with a physician. After graduating, Physician Assistants also must log 100 hours of continuing medical education every two years and sit for a re-certification exam every ten years.

Becoming a Physician’s Assistant through West Liberty University, students will learn all the necessary frameworks that the profession is based on. The program begins in the summer semester, offering year-round education at the Campbell Hall of Health Sciences.
