Special Education Workshops

“Effective Co-Teaching Strategies”
This workshop will allow teachers to identify different models of co-teaching instruction, identify roles of co-teachers in the classroom, review examples of effective co-taught lessons, and use a template for supporting common planning in the classroom (1 or 2 hours)

“Using Universal Design for Learners”
This workshop will provide participants the guiding principles and tools needed to support students with disabilities, English language learners, gifted students, struggling students, and varied learning needs of students in the general population in inclusive classrooms.  (2 or 3 hours)

“Fidgets: Sensory Integration”
This workshop will focus on low-cost easily, accessible and developmentally appropriate “fidgets” to address sensory integration dysfunction in the classroom.  Special emphasis will be given to students on the Autism Spectrum and students with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorders (AD/HD). (1 or 2 hours)

“Autism and Asperger Syndrome:  An Overview”
This workshop will guide participants through an overview of the common characteristics of autism spectrum disorders, diagnostic criteria, and low-cost classroom adaptations. (1 or 2 hours)

“Understanding Dyslexia”
This workshop will guide participants through an overview of the common characteristics of dyslexia and associated learning difficulties.  Special emphasis will be given to current brain research and research-based instructional interventions. (1 hour)

“Learning Disabilities 101”
This workshop will focus on understanding the characteristics of specific learning disabilities and discuss practical strategies to assist those with disabilities.

“Emotional and Behavioral Disorders 101”
This workshop with review common conditions that fall into this category as well as useful behavior strategies to assist those with such disorders.

“Traumatic Brain Injuries and Other Health Impairments”
This workshop reviews the growing categories within special education.  The causes and long-term effects of traumatic brain injuries will be reviewed.  Additionally, the look into other health impairment will be debated.  An emphasis will be placed on the subcategories of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and the combined type.
