Drama and Theater Workshops

“Basics of Acting: It’s all Choices Nowadays”
This workshop is good for the newer performer who may want more insight into how to develop a character (Stanislavski-based) by making the most interesting, appropriate choices.  Workshop attempts to cover Stanislavski’s ideas quickly and then put them into practice so the performers get to start to apply the principles quickly.  (2 or 3 hours)

Presenter: Mr. Michael L. Aulick, Assistant Professor, Theater, West Liberty University
Michael received his M.F.A. in Acting/Directing from the University of Louisville where he spent a few years touring with the acclaimed Louisville Repertory Theatre Company.  As the Artistic Director/Actor Coach of Northeast State Theatre, he trained many college actors and built a program that gained prominence in TN and was recognized for excellence.

“Uncovering the Actor’s Impulse”
An intermediate acting workshop that attempts to develop the actor’s ability to sense and act upon their instinctual impulses.  Beginning actor’s are often discouraged from following their impulses and quickly learn to ignore them.  This workshop begins with the justification for using the performer’s impulses in a creative and productive manner and then attempts to demonstrate how to rehearse through the impulse choice.  Workshop is very interactive and participants are required to wear appropriate clothing (athletic/workout/dance dress). (2 or 3 hours)

“Basics of Voice: What did he just say?”
This workshop provides the actor (not singer) some understanding of how sound is created and how the performer uses this knowledge to help himself/herself perform with more vocal confidence and power.  Workshop covers proper breathing, articulation/enunciation, volume, rate, tempo, and inflection. (2 or 3 hours)

Dialect Acquisition: Where are you from?”
This is an intermediate workshop that covers how a performer acquires a dialect and uses it in a performance.  Workshop begins with a brief explanation of the way sound is produced/ manipulated in the body and then introduces the beginning of a specific dialect (can choose Standard British, Cockney, Irish, German, French, New England, others upon request).  (2 or 3 hours)
