Featured Alumnus – Michael Kane

April 9, 2014 By WLU Webmaster

Nomination as Louisvilleʼs “Rookie of the Year” in 2011

Mr. Michael Kane is a graduate of Tuscarawas Valley High School and West Liberty University (Spring 2010). While at West Liberty University, Mike earned 3.9 GPA and played football for four years. As one can see, he excelled in both academics and athletics. Mike was one of seven new staff members hired at Louisville High School in the spring of 2010. He was selected from nearly 150 applicants to teach English because of his eagerness to learn and his past academic achievements. Since becoming a teacher in Louisville, Mike has shown his ability to relate to students and has built a great sense of rapport with many of his students.

Mrs. Denise Mast, English department chair at Louisville High School, has stated that Mike has shown a willingness to learn and has brought a fresh perspective to the English Department. According to Mrs. Mast, “Mike has brought new realities to a veteran staff.”

Mike has shown a willingness to work with colleagues in his field. He has worked with a colleague to develop reading activities for students outside of the traditional school day. He has also utilized technology to help develop students’ writing skills. According to Mrs. Mast, “Mike understands the big picture.” We appreciate and value the ideas Mike is sharing with the students and staff at Louisville High School.

In addition, Mike has taken on the responsibility of being a varsity assistant football coach, and is planning to coach baseball in the spring of 2011. Mr. John DeMarco, Louisville head football coach, states that Mike is a “valuable addition” to the Leopard football staff. Mr. DeMarco goes on to say, “Mike relates well with the student-athletes while recognizing the boundaries a coach must have with the athletes.”

The folks at Louisville High School appreciate the contributions Mike has made for both the students and the staff in the few short months he has worked at Louisville High School. They anticipate great accomplishments from Mike in future years. They are delighted to welcome him as a member of the Louisville High School staff.
