Enabling push notifications on your laptop or desktop computer for browsers like Chrome and Edge is relatively straightforward. Push notifications can be a convenient way to stay updated on websites or web apps that offer them. Unfortunately, Safari and mobile browsers are not currently supported, but here’s a guide to help you through the process for Chrome and Edge.
For Chrome:
- Open Chrome: Make sure you have Google Chrome installed on your computer. If not, download and install it from the official website (https://www.google.com/
chrome/). - Open Settings:
Click the three vertical dots in the top right corner to open the Chrome menu.
Select “Settings” from the dropdown menu. - Advanced Settings:
Scroll down to the bottom of the Settings page and click on “Advanced” to reveal more options. - Privacy and Security:
Under the “Privacy and Security” section, click “Site settings.” - Notifications:
Find the “Notifications” option and click on it. - Enable Notifications:
You’ll see a switch that allows you to block or allow notifications. Make sure it’s set to “Ask before sending.” - Manage Exceptions (Optional):
You can also manage exceptions for specific websites here. To allow or block notifications for particular websites, click on “Add” next to “Block” or “Allow” and enter the website URL.
For Microsoft Edge:
- Open Edge: Make sure you’re using the Microsoft Edge browser. You can download and install it from the official website if it’s not installed.
- Open Settings:
Click the three horizontal dots in the top right corner to open the Edge menu. Select “Settings.” - Site Permissions:
In the left sidebar, click on “Cookies, site permissions.” - Notifications:
Under the “Notifications” section, click on “Manage.” - Enable Notifications:
Ensure the “Ask before sending (recommended)” option is turned on. - Manage Permissions (Optional):
You can also manage permissions for specific websites here. To allow or block notifications for a particular site, click on the URL and choose your preferred option.
Remember that not all websites offer push notifications; you’ll only receive them from sites that have implemented this feature. You can then choose to allow or block them on a site-by-site basis.
