West Liberty University’s Physician Assistant Studies (PA) graduate program is marking National Physician Assistant Week, Oct. 6 – 11 with several events including a photo contest.
Under the direction of Dr. William A. Childers, the PA program is part of the College of Science. Sierra Moore, Zanesville, Ohio, is a member of the class of 2016 and is the student representative serving in the West Virginia Association of Physician Assistants (WVAPA), a branch of the national association.
“Our class went around campus in a friendly photo competition to represent our program. We had fun snapping photos associated with the celebration of PA week and spreading the news about our profession,” said Moore.
After all the photos were snapped, the PA faculty and staff voted on the pictures submitted and picked the best example of WLU PA program promotion.
The winner receives a prize and the photo will be shared in a national photo contest that is now found on social media (#PAweek).
“The photo the WLU faculty and staff picked is one snapped in the anatomy lab in Arnett Hall,” Moore said. It shows PA students Natalie Bohn, Weirton, W.Va., Tanika Dunz, Marlinton, W.Va., Landyn Lucas, Clarington, Ohio and Ryan Aston, Glen Easton, W.Va.
The WLU physician assistants will also distribute information and treats to campus from noon – 1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 8.
“We’ll be on the Quad, sharing information with everyone on the meaning of our profession and distributing some surprises,” she said. The Wednesday event will be part of the annual Homecoming campaign of candidates that occurs at the same time.
West Liberty University began its Physician Assistant Studies graduate degree program in 2012. Its inaugural class graduated last May and it now has 17 PAs in clinical rotations and 19 taking the didactic portion of study in the classroom. A new class will enter in July 2015.
