Jeanne Sheets Carter, a member of West Liberty University’s Nursing Community Advisory Board since its inception in 1992, has retired from that position.
Donna J. Lukich, program director of nursing at the university, noted, “Jeanne served for 20 years as our community representative and was recognized by the board at its meeting on Oct. 11.”
Carter earned both bachelor and master’s degrees from West Virginia University. She has been a home economics agent, educator and school counselor. Active in her church and community, she has served on several non-profit boards in the Wheeling area. She also is a member of WV Farm Bureau and served on its Women’s Advisory Committee for 15 years. In 1995, she received the “Outstanding Alumni Award” from the WVU College of Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences. She and her husband, Harlan P. “Ted” Carter III, have been recognized by the State Fair of West Virginia and the W.Va. Farm Bureau for their many contributions to the state. They were inducted into the state’s Agriculture and Forestry Hall of Fame in 2011.
Lukich praised Carter for her years of service to WLU, adding, “She has always been an active board member with all the organizations she has served. Her experience in education gave her insight into the issues students face, and she has a heart for the faculty and the work they do. Her positive comments about the nursing program contributed to our initial efforts to recruit students.”
