WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Dec. 10, 2015 — West Liberty University recently honored four members of the campus community who are retiring at the end of the fiscal year.

Sue Baker, Dr. John P. McCullough, Dr. Judy Stechly and John “Jack” Wright were treated to a reception at the Boyle Conference Center, hosted by the President’s Office.

Each retiree was presented with a framed certificate detailing their years of service during the ceremony. All employees were invited to join in the reception to honor the retirees who together represent 104 years of service to West Virginia higher education.

Baker, a resident of Mount Olivet, served for 35 years and at the time of her retirement she served as a data technician in the Information Technology Services department, located in Main Hall. She worked primarily with the laptop program and data entry. She is a graduate of West Virginia Career College.

McCullough, a resident of Triadelphia, served for 45 years and at the time of his retirement, was the interim president. Prior to being named interim president in March 2015, he served as executive assistant to the president. McCullough previously served as interim president on two other occasions, one in 2001 and again from 2005-2007. He has presided as either interim president or provost at 32 commencement ceremonies.

McCullough also served as provost and vice president of academic affairs for 11 years. Prior to that he was dean of the School of Business Administration for 15 years and before that he taught for many years as a professor of management. He is a native of Illinois and graduate of Illinois State University and the University of North Dakota.

Stechly, a resident of Wheeling, served as a faculty member for 17 years in the College of Education, from 1988 – 1999 and again from 2010 – 2015. At the time of her retirement she was a full professor. A native of Pittsburgh, she earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and early childhood education from WLU, and earned both her master’s and doctoral degrees from West Virginia University.

Wright, a resident of Wheeling, served as executive vice president and chief financial officer since June 2008. He managed the university business, capital spending and maintenance operations. Some of the major projects he was involved in include the restoration of Shaw Hall, the construction of Campbell Hall of Health Sciences and the renovation and construction of the West Family Stadium. A graduate of Lehigh University, he earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and holds an honorary doctorate of law degree from Allegheny College.
