WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., May 23, 2016 — Rising junior Jessica Ballard was thrilled to learn that she won an Apple Watch donated by Pittsburg Alumni Chapter as a reward for completing a campus survey on buildings this spring.
Ballard, who is from Harpers Ferry, W.Va., majors in human biology. Her future plans include medical school. Ballard also is a member of Chi Omega sorority and is a senator for the Student Government Association and a member of the biology club.
She is a big fan of Apple products.
“I was so surprised to find out I won an the watch. I really wanted one so this is a great way to start the summer,” she said, adding that she is a punctual person and wears a watch already but has friends that use the Apple version. Of course the new watch offers many more technological features, like access to your email and text messages.
She completed the campus survey online. All students and staff were encouraged to answer the survey questions regarding residential, dining and recreational facilities, in an effort to better understand campus needs and begin planning facility updates.
The survey is part of the work of the Public Private Partnership Committee, a subcommittee of the Facilities Committee, designated by the WLU Board of Governors recently. It is working to develop new initiatives in housing, dining, and recreational facilities for students.
Executive Director of Housing & Student Life Marcella Snyder is the chairperson of the committee and was pleased with the results of the survey. Other members of the committee include Board of Governor representatives, administration, staff, faculty and students.
“We received back about 150 surveys and are now using this data to plan and discuss future updates to our campus dorms, dining facilities and recreational areas. It’s just so important to get this feedback from students and staff,” Snyder said.
Alumnus John Bonassi presented the watch to Ballard, representing the Pittsburgh Alumni Chapter, which donated the watch, valued at approximately $299.
