Will your son or daughter be attending college in the 17-18 academic year? You can start prepping to complete the FAFSA today! All students and parents are required to have an FSA ID to complete the FAFSA and most student loan documents. You can start the process in creating your FSA Username and password today! You will need to visit fsaid.ed.gov. In order to create, you will need your SSN, full name as it is listed on your Social security card, and your date of birth. Keep in mind you will create separate IDs for each student and parent.
Here are some quick tips about your FSA ID
- In order to retrieve your username and password later as well as confirm your FSA ID, you will need to provide an email address. BUT keep in mind only one FSA ID can be associated to an email, so you can’t use mom’s email for all the FSA IDs in the household!
- You will use your FSA ID every year, so keep the username and password handy – we encourage students to plug into their phones for easy access in our office throughout the year if they need it.
- If you had an FASFA PIN in the past, you can actually link your FSA ID to your past PIN during the sign up process! If you don’t remember your PIN, that’s ok! It’ll just take an extra day or two to activate your FSA ID.
- Completing your FSA ID applications now will help with completion of your FAFSA in October as sometimes your FSA ID takes 3 business days to be verified.
