April 18, 2013 By Maureen Zambito

West Liberty University welcomes pianist Robert Mayerovitch to campus for a concert at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 25. Sponsored by the WLU music department, the concert is free and open to the public.  mayerovich

The concert will take place in Elbin Auditorium, College Hall.

“I am thrilled that Robert Mayerovitch will soon be giving his debut WLU recital. His challenging and intriguing program features Czerny’s La Ricordanza Variations, Bartók’s Dance Suite, and Brahms’ Sonata in C Major, Op. 1.  Dr. Mayerovitch is a consummate pianist, invariably displaying impressive technical gifts and great musical conviction. Please don’t miss this very special event,” commented Gerald Lee, associate professor of music.

Mayerovitch is a professor of piano and a member of the Elysian Trio and the Lyceum2 violin-piano duo in residence at Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio. He is a graduate of McGill University and of Indiana University, where he studied with, assisted, and later substituted for Menahem Pressler, pianist of the renowned Beaux Arts Trio.

Mayerovitch’s performing awards include first prize in the Bartók–Kabalevsky International Piano Competition and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation Competition.

In addition to his performing career as chamber musician and soloist, he has extensive experience as a clinician, presenter, pianist and teacher. He also is a co-author of the critically acclaimed book, “A Symposium for Pianists and Teachers: Strategies to Develop the Mind and Body for Optimal Performance. “

Mayerovitch presents regularly at national and international music conferences. His current demonstration of practice and concert preparation can be viewed through hundreds of videos on YouTube, where he shares his unedited work for recitals such as that at West Liberty University.

The concert also is sponsored by the Hughes Lecture Series and the College of Arts and Communication’s Arts and Ideas Series, The department of music at West Liberty University offers undergraduate degrees in music education, music performance and music technology.
