August 7, 2015 By Maureen Zambito

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., August 7, 2015 — A sophomore enrolled in the Gary E. West College of Business has received a prestigious scholarship from the National Apostolate of Maronites (NAM).Dalton Haas scholarship crop horizontal

Dalton C. Haas of Wheeling (Elm Grove) was notified recently on behalf of the NAM Board of Directors and the NAM Scholarship Selection Committee, that he was chosen as the recipient of the 2015 Thomas and Jennie Ayoob Memorial National Apostolate of Maronites Scholarship Award.

“This represents a stellar achievement by one of our students. We are very proud of him,” said Ryan McCullough, assistant professor and director of Oral Communication Studies in the Department of Media and Visual Arts.

McCullough wrote a letter of recommendation for Haas who also is minoring in theater and communications.

“It is apparent that you are an exemplary student, active in both your parish and in extra-curricular activities. Your commitment to your church, school and civic community, and especially your love and pride of your heritage are admirable qualities which will certainly serve you well in life,” stated Mike J. Naber, executive director of the NAM, headquartered in Yonkers, N.Y.

The $1,000 scholarship is renewable at the end of Haas’ first academic year, provided that his GPA remains at least a 3.0.

Currently, Haas also is working part time in the performing arts department at Central Catholic High School and at his church, St. Michael’s Parish in Edgwood.

A Wheeling Park High School graduate, Haas also is an assistant coach for Park Patriots’ varsity hockey team. His career plan includes working in his family’s business, McCann Distributing of Wheeling, post commencement.
