One Act Plays Feature Student Directors

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Dec. 3, 2015 — Student directors get a chance to shine as West Liberty University features eight one act plays led from the students’ chairs. All performances are open to the public and take place in Kelly Theatre.

“We are proud of our theatre students and pleased to give them a chance to find out more about the serious directing process,” said adjunct Professor of Theatre Maggie Balsley, who is overseeing the productions. “Students in the Theatre 470 class select, cast, direct and produce some great playwrights in this class. We hope campus and the public will join us.”

Directors include: Michael Blatzer, Geena Diomedi, Brady Dunn, Alex Franke, Alex Glofelty, Jeremiah Propst, Sara Reed and Jed Shook. Four one-acts will be performed on each of two dates.

Titles, dates and directors are as follows:

3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 6 and 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 8, four different one acts are planned. “The Perfect Red,” by Paola Soto Hornbuckle, directed by Sara Reed; “Time Flies,” by David Ives, directed by Jeremiah Propst; “Fugue,” by Laura Elizabeth Miller, director by Brady Dunn and “If Men Played Cards As Women Do,” by George S. Kaufman, directed by Jed Shook.

7:30 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 7 and 9, four additional one acts will be performed. “Women in Heat,” by Rich Orloff, directed by Alex Glotfelty; “Dead Boy,” by Craig Wright, directed by Michael Blatzer; “Talking Cure,” by Ethan Coen, directed by Geena Diomedi and “Weird Water,” by Robert Lewis Vaughan, directed by Alex Franke.

The WLU Theatre Program is part of the university’s College of Arts and Communication.
