WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Aug. 17, 2016 — Choir at West Liberty University is not just for music majors (or even students!) according to Dr. Scott Glysson, director of Choral Activities and assistant professor of Music.
“Our College Community Choir is open to everyone who likes to sing. We are planning another fun year and will actually be performing Mozart’s Requiem in the spring so it will be a great year to join if you like music,” said Glysson.
Open to community members, WLU students, area high school students and everyone, the Community Choir requires no audition and rehearses throughout the fall, winter and spring as it prepares for public performances of large choral works with orchestra twice a year.
“It’s a privilege to join with members of the community who all love to sing and rehearse and prepare for shows. There’s a great feeling when we come together and make music, then get to perform it in public with an orchestra, for our friends and family,” said WLU senior Emily Wade, whose major is general business.
Wade is in both the Community Choir and the WLU Singers and is from Sistersville, W.Va.
The College Community Choir meets from 7- 9 p.m. every Monday at Vance Presbyterian Church. The first rehearsal for fall 2016 is Aug. 22.
To register, sign up at http://tinyurl.com/h4r9y54 or contact Dr. Scott Glysson, scott.glysson@westliberty.edu. Students are free but other choir members are asked to pay a fee of $50, annually.
WLU Singers is the University’s premier vocal ensemble. This student group tours each year both nationally and internationally, according to Glysson who also directs it.
“We recently completed a spring tour of Ireland and the WLU Singers will be headed to Toronto in May 2017,” he said.
The WLU Singers is open to all WLU students, regardless of major, by audition. Auditions will be held Monday, Aug. 22 or Tuesday Aug. 23 from 3 – 4 p.m., in the choir room, Hall of Fine Arts. A sign-up sheet will be posted outside Fine Arts Room 314.
