WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., March 24, 2015 — West Liberty University students will have an opportunity to learn business skills from Altmeyer Funeral Homes and Crematory President Jim Altmeyer, who will be the speaker at the Business Executive Seminar Series, from 12:30 – 3 p.m., Tuesday, March 31.
Altmeyer will speak on changes that have occurred over the last 30 years in the funeral business and how he has managed those changes. The presentation takes place in College Hall and is open to the public.
Altmeyer Funeral Homes and Crematory, which has grown from three to 29 facilities since 1990, is well known in the region, with locations in Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia and North Carolina. Altmeyer is also president of Altmeyer Realty Company, a real estate development company and president of Martin-Steadfast Agency, a pre-arrange funeral entity.
Altmeyer graduated from the Linsly School, Wheeling, Villanova University, Phila., Pa., and the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science.
He is active in the community, taking a leadership role in many civic organizations. He is a member of the National Funeral Director’s Association, the Wheeling Lions Club and the Wheeling Chamber of Commerce. He also is a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #504, the Serra Club International and is a member of the Poodles & Hanneford Tent, Saints and Sinners Club of America.
He has served on the boards of both Crittenton Services, Inc. and Wheeling Hospital Foundation. Altmeyer also is a former team captain for the YMCA capital campaign, a triathlon participant and a soccer coach.
Dave Wright coordinates the Executive Seminar Series at WLU. Wright is an associate professor of management at WLU.
