Dr. Angela Rehbein Edits Special Issue of “Women’s Writing”

July 13, 2015 By Maureen Zambito

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., July 13, 2015 — West Liberty University Professor Dr. Angela Rehbein is a featured editor for a recent special issue of Women’s Writing.

Dr. Angela Rehbein w journalRehbein co-edited volume 22, issue 2 of the peer-review publication Women’s Writing with Professor Andrew O. Winckles of Adrian College, located in Michigan. The issue seeks to showcase new research on women writers of the Romantic Period (ca. 1780-1850). Rehbein also has a full-length article published in the issue

“Besides editing the issue, I was also given the opportunity to co-write the introduction with my colleague Dr. Winckles. Together, we selected the articles to appear in the publication, after consulting with experts on each article’s subject. Our aim was to reassess our received knowledge and assumptions about British women writers of the Romantic Period, particularly those who have been neglected or understudied,” Rehbein said.

The publication offers an open call to scholars to submit worthy research for consideration in each issue. For this special issue, there were many excellent submissions, according to Rehbein.

“It was challenging to select the articles to include, that’s for sure. But it was an honor and a pleasure to assemble the issue and to shine light on exciting new research in this field,” Rehbein said.

She met Winckles at a National Endowment for the Humanities summer seminar in Nebraska in 2013 led by Stephen Behrendt (George Holmes Distinguished Professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln), and this resulted in the scholarly collaboration that earned the two English professors the chance to lead the publication of this special issue.

She has also single-authored an article on Elizabeth Inchbald, a Romantic-era English novelist, actress, and dramatist. Rehbein’s research generally focuses on women writers such as Inchbald who are lesser-known to modern audiences, but who were frequently well-known in their own time.

The issue, published by Taylor and Francis, can be found and purchased online at tandfonline.com.

Dr. Rehbein is an assistant professor of English at WLU and her work on the Romantic-era English novelist Jane West is published in the journal Eighteenth Century Fiction. She is currently editing, with Winckles, a book-length collection on Women’s Literary Networks of the Romantic Period for Liverpool University Press.

Dr. Rehbein can be reached at 304-336-8818. The Department of Humanities at WLU is housed in the College of Liberal Arts. For complete information, please call 1.866.WESTLIB or visit westliberty.edu.
