Alumnus Named Director at Wheeling YWCA

February 2, 2015 By Maureen Zambito

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Feb. 2, 2015 — Alumnus Joshua C. Benyo will be putting his degree to good work, literally, as he has been selected to serve as program service director at Wheeling’s YWCA.

“I’m thrilled and most certainly honored to join the YWCA Wheeling. Our organization has been in Wheeling since 1906. Throughout our history in the Friendly City, we have offered innovative programming to support the needs of the community. It is my hope to share the work of this organization with the community and also honor our long-standing history,” he said.

In his new position, Benyo will oversee all programs offered at the YWCA, which include Family Violence Prevention, the Y-Not-Repeat Boutique, Women Inspired in New Directions (W.I.N.D.), Cultural Diversity and Community Outreach and the Women’s Residence and Homeless Shelter.

“The Board of Directors and I are pleased to have Josh join our team. He brings with him the tools for success: education, experience, and commitment. He is a good fit and well equipped. I am excited that his talents and gifts can elevate our service delivery,” said Lori Jones, executive director of the Y.

A life-long resident of Wheeling, Benyo holds a Master of Arts in Education degree from West Liberty University, specializing in community education. He also earned his undergraduate degree at WLU.

Benyo stated, “Our job is to advocate for those who don’t have a voice. Last year we served approximately 5,400 individuals through our program offerings. These services are critical to our clients in not just Ohio County, we’re also serving clients in Marshall and Wetzel Counties.”

“I’m proud to be from Wheeling and certainly look forward to its prosperous and diverse future. We have so many wonderful people here making a difference. I believe in Wheeling and hope that others will view our city in a positive and optimistic light,” he added.

Benyo assumed his new role on Jan. 21, 2015. In addition to program development, he will oversee projects, marketing, partnership development and fundraising for the YWCA.

“I learn something new everyday, it’s exciting, and that keeps me on my feet. Working with Lori Jones, the YWCA Wheeling Board of Directors, and our amazing staff makes me feel thankful everyday for this opportunity to make a difference with the YWCA Wheeling. We’re doing great work and you can attribute that to our strong mission,” said Benyo.

The YWCA Wheeling is one of 300 associations in the nation.
