For decades, the neighborhood just south of Downtown Wheeling has been known as Center Wheeling. Center Wheeling has been known as both a hub of commerce and a hub of culture over the past 200 years.

Currently, Center Wheeling is anchored by the historic Centre Market house which was built in 1853 and pre-dates West Virginia’s statehood! Centre Market is home to all kinds of shops, galleries, restaurants, and other attractions.

Centre Market is just a short walk from Towngate Theatre, another important cultural landmark in Center Wheeling. Towngate has been home to concerts, film series, classes, art shows, improv and comedy troupes, and both public and professional theatre performances for more than 30 years.

In recent years, the addition of boutique shops and bakeries, seasonal street festivals, and two home-grown micro-breweries has made Center Wheeling a hot spot for new and life-long residents alike.
