WLU Marks Constitution Day

September 11, 2018 By Maureen Zambito

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Sept. 11, 2018 — West Liberty University will celebrate Constitution Day on Monday, Sept. 17, with special events for its students, staff and the public.

Flag raising ceremony on the Quad, Veterans Day 2017.

“We plan on having patriotic games for students, like amendment matching, questions from the Citizen’s Test, Constitution Jeopardy and others. This will all take place from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on the quad so all students have a chance to participate,” said Dr. Brian Fitzpatrick, assistant professor of political science.

Pocket constitutions and patriotic prizes will be distributed.

Commemorating the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787, Constitution Day became an official holiday in 2004, with the help of West Virginia Senator Robert C. Byrd (1917 – 2010).

Professor Fitzpatrick is being assisted in this effort by students in his American Government Class.

WLU offers programs in social studies with concentrations in geography and planning and history and social studies education, all housed in its College of Liberal Arts.

The College of Liberal Arts includes undergraduate programs in criminal justice, English, geography and planning, history, philosophy, political science, pre-law, religion, social work, sociology, and world languages. Additionally, the College of Liberal Arts offers a graduate program in criminology.
