WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — West Liberty University’s Nutting Gallery will present “Interlaced: Making, Material, Process in Appalachia,” a group exhibition featuring the work of West Virginia-based craft artists, from Oct. 7 through Nov. 5.

An opening reception will be held Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Nutting Gallery, located in the Fine Arts Building on the West Liberty University campus. A discussion with the artists is scheduled for 6 p.m. The campus community and the public are invited to attend. Admission is free.

Participating artists are Susan Feller, Jessie McClanahan, Suzan Ann Morgan, Griffin Nordstrom, Ali Printz, Domenica Queen, Mary Roy, Louise Silk, and Nevada Tribble. The exhibition is curated by Feller and Nordstrom.

The exhibition highlights contemporary approaches to craft rooted in Appalachian making, materials, and process.

“We are excited to have these artists on campus sharing their work and techniques,” said Nutting Gallery Director Brian Fencl. “It’s a show about the craft traditions by a very diverse group of artists, and it’s also a visual conversation between them.”

Fencl added, “Our students will have the opportunity to see the work of a broad range of makers and gain insight into how they create.”

Craft enthusiasts in the Wheeling area have an especially rich opportunity this fall. “Interlaced” runs concurrently with “New Appalachia 2026: Traditional Craft, Contemporary Practice,” a juried exhibition on view at Oglebay Institute’s Stifel Fine Arts Center, 1330 National Road in Wheeling, through Oct. 31.

That exhibition features works in ceramics, fiber, furniture, metalwork, printmaking, and wood from artists across nine Appalachian states and explores how traditional craft continues to evolve into contemporary expression. Together, the two exhibitions offer visitors a compelling look at craft practice in the region.

The Nutting Gallery is dedicated to educating, enriching, and engaging students and the public through exhibitions of the highest quality. Located in the Fine Arts Building, regular gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays, weekends, and other times are available by arrangement.
