Community University Announces Fall Classes

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Sept. 19, 2018 – West Liberty University’s Community University will begin a new collection of fall classes on Sept. 26 for adults age 55 and older.

“Most classes are conveniently held during the day at the WLU Highlands Center and are taught by volunteers. Occasionally, classes offer interesting tours of local attractions. The program is designed to be interactive and informative and is open to the public” said Ron Witt, who coordinates the program and is WLU’s executive director of alumni and community relations.

Individuals must register for Community University but may take as many classes as they wish. All classes are for self-improvement and lifelong learning.

Classes include:

  • Movies with retired WLU Professor Art Barbeau, eight sessions, 9:30 a.m., Sept. 26 and Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, and Nov. 7 and 14
  • Most classes meet in a Highlands Center classroom, shown here.

    Adventures in Transportation, Instructor Dale Rothert, 1 p.m., Sept. 27

  • The Significance of the National Road in West Virginia Statehood, WLU History Instructor Sandy Czernek, 1 p.m., Oct. 1
  • Lifestyle Factors and Cancer Risk, WLU Assistant Professor of Exercise Physiology Jason Metz, 1:30 p.m., Oct. 2
  • Psychology Myths Debunked: Science or Superstition? WLU Senior Psychology Major Sydnie Stewart, and WLU Program Director and Clinical Psychologist Tammy Mclain, 2:30 p.m., Oct. 4
