WEST LIBERTY, May 4, 2017 — West Liberty University will hold its Spring 2017 Commencement Ceremony at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 13, in the Academic, Sports and Recreation Complex (ASRC). Three hundred and forty-three students are expected to complete graduation requirements during the spring semester.
Alexander Gordon of Wheeling has been named the graduating student speaker based on his college designation and 4.0 cumulative GPA. (West Liberty University rotates the speaker’s role among its five colleges and school of professional studies.)
“I’m thrilled to be selected as student speaker and will talk about my observations on success and my personal plan of attack for success,” Gordon said.
A music technology major, he plans on moving to a bigger city for more recording and music writing opportunities, as well as to develop his interest in professional acting. He has been a member of the West Liberty Singers during all four years of his college career and was a active in the Hilltop Players theatre group.
He is a member of Alpha Chi Honor Society and the Alpha Chi Omega fraternity.
Other graduating students honored with special commencement duties include the WLU college banner carriers. These students represent the highest GPA in each respective college and include:
- College of Arts & Communication, Jessica Bethel, Mount Pleasant, Ohio
- College of Education, Alexis Virtue, New Cumberland, W.Va.
- College of Liberal Arts, Nicole Talbott, East Liverpool, Ohio
- College of Sciences, Austin Cusick, Shadyside, Ohio
- West College of Business, Trey Jablinske, Bellaire, Ohio
- School of Professional Studies, Kimberly Wolfe, McMechen, W.Va.
The Commencement Ceremony will be televised live on WLU Television Comcast Channel 14. A video of the ceremony will be provided to graduates with their diplomas.
A reception for graduates, guests and families will be held in the Student Union immediately following the ceremony.
New this year is the addition of a separate commencement ceremony for graduating students in the Master of Physician Assistant Studies program. This will take place at 6 p.m., Friday, June 16, 2017 in Kelly Theatre.
Commencement tickets are not required for guests attending and the doors of the ASRC will open for seating at 9:30 a.m. Parking will be available for guests behind the ASRC.
West Liberty University offers nearly 70 undergraduate majors and 30 programs. Graduate programs include the Master of Arts in Education, the Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies, the Master of Professional Studies, the Master of Science in Criminology and the online MBA degrees.
