WLU Hosts Tri-State Psychology Conference

April 25, 2017 By Maureen Zambito

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., April 25, 2017— West Liberty University’s Psychology Program hosted the 24th annual Tri-State Psychology Conference recently for the first time. It was held in the WLU Highlands Center and brought together 72 students and 11 faculty members from six colleges including, Marietta, Marshall, Ohio Valley University, the University of Charleston, West Liberty University and West Virginia University.

Hillary Warner, a doctoral candidate from the University of Pittsburgh, was the keynote speaker for the April 21 meeting, and her presentation was titled “More Than Tick Marks and Tallies:  My Journey into Applied Research.”

Five undergraduate students presented oral reports on their studies; other students presented 40 different poster projects on self-esteem, vaping, anxiety, parenting styles, grit, ostracism and more.

WLU psychology majors attending the conference take time out for a group photo.

Oral presentations include:

  • Moriah Chicoine (WLU) “A Breath of Fresh Air”
  • Jonah Estep (WLU) “The ELC Experience”
  • Megan Hendrich (Marietta College) “Does Mindfulness Affect Implicit Learning”
  • Alyssa Moran and Randy Dlesk (WLU) “Cognition Remix”

Started in 1993 by undergraduate students from Marshall University, the Tri-State Psychology Conference grew into an annual event hosted by Higher Education institutions on a rotation basis. The conference welcomes undergraduate and graduate students and faculty from schools across West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky.

West Liberty University is West Virginia’s oldest institution of higher education and offers nearly 70 undergraduate majors and 30 programs. Graduate programs include the Master of Arts in Education, the Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies, the Master of Professional Studies, the Master of Science in Criminology and the online MBA degrees.

WLU will add a Master’s of Biology in the fall of 2017 and expect to have a master’s in Dental Hygiene and a master’s in Clinical Psychology in the near future. For more information on WLU, please call 1.866.WESTLIB or visit westliberty.edu.
