Old cell phones replaced by newer upgrades don’t have to be thrown away, thanks to a program in which West Liberty University is participating.  Retired mobile phone devices may be dropped off at the WLU campus police headquarters on the main campus to help the 911 Cell Phone Bank program.

Lt. Thomas A. Hostutler of the WLU police explains that the recycled telephones provide people in need, especially seniors and victims of abuse, a means of communicating with emergency services. He added that a drop-off point soon will be added to the university’s campus at The Highlands Center in Ohio County.

The 911 Cell Phone Bank, an initiative of The Charitable Recycling Foundation, Inc, provides an ongoing and readily available source of emergency cell phones and funds to meet the unexpected and urgent needs of law enforcement and victims services agencies.  For more information, see www.911cellphonebank.org/.
