WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Aug. 8, 2018 — West Liberty University today received notice of its reaffirmation of accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).
The official letter was received by President Stephen Greiner via email.
“We are pleased to learn that the HLC has issued its reaffirmation and I personally thank all the staff and faculty for their work on the accreditation process,” said President Greiner.
WLU recently underwent a complete evaluation by the HLC to ensure its adherence to quality guidelines for organizational health.
The Institutional Actions Council of the HLC continued the accreditation of West Liberty University with the next Reaffirmation of Accreditation occurring in 2027-28.
HLC accredits colleges and universities in a 19-state region of the United States and West Liberty has been accredited by the HLC since 1942, when it was known as West Liberty State Teachers College.
An independent corporation founded in 1895, HLC is one of six regional institutional accreditors in the United States and accredits degree-granting post-secondary educational institutions in the North Central region, which includes the states of Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
Established in 1837, West Liberty University is a forward-looking, four-year public university steeped in a rich heritage as West Virginia’s oldest institution. Today it offers more than 70 undergraduate majors, plus a growing number of graduate programs including two new master’s programs in dental hygiene and clinical psychology.
