University Hosts HEPC Sponsored Global WV Training

February 18, 2014 By Maureen Zambito

West Liberty University will welcome higher education representatives from across the state for a live videoconference from Mexico City on Tuesday, Feb. 25. The videoconference will address recruiting opportunities in Mexico and is part of the GlobalWV Networking and Training Event. EducationUSA_logo_color_small

“After a period of recent decline in the wake of the global financial crisis, there has been a significant increase in interest among Mexicans for U.S. educational opportunities,” according to Director Clark Egnor, HEPC Office of International Programs. The theme of the 2nd GlobalWV Training and Networking event is “working toward the dual goal of increasing both the number of international students on domestic campuses and the number of U.S. students going abroad.”

The program will offer tips on recruiting international students in Mexico and will feature experts:

  • Commercial Specialist with the U.S. Commercial Service Mexico Martha Sánchez.
  • Acting Commercial Officer in Mexico City Diego Gattesco, who also is the senior international trade specialist and director of the U.S. Export Assistance Center, Wheeling.

The videoconference is being offered exclusively to representatives of colleges and universities in West Virginia and will take place from 1:30-2:30 p.m., on Feb. 25, as part of the GlobalWV Networking and Training Event.

All higher education institutions in West Virginia are welcome to participate in this event, free of charge. Other activities will include:

A networking lunch from 12:30-1:30 p.m. to share information about best practices for recruiting and retaining international students and sending students abroad and brainstorm ideas for campus internationalization. The lunch will be followed by the live videoconference from Mexico City.

There also is a second live webinar scheduled from 3-4:30 p.m., entitled “Advising International Students on Education Abroad” conducted by NAFSA: Association of International Educators.

After these webinars, Egnor will moderate a discussion of the international education topics and answer questions.

All activities will take place in the R. Emmett Boyle Conference Center, located in the Academic, Sports and Recreation Complex (ASRC). For more information, please contact Senior Administrative Assistant in the Provost Office Beverly Burke at 304.336.8004.
