WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Aug. 30, 2018 — Members of Chi Nu fraternity will combine fun and charity with its First Annual Pooch Pals 5K this fall. The non-competitive walk will be held on the WLU campus on Saturday, Sept. 8.
“Chi Nu is hosting the event to help local animal shelters of Belmont, Brooke, Ohio counties and Angel Ridge Animal Rescue. The event is a standard 5K walk/run, and everyone is welcome to bring their dogs,” explained Joshua Ridgeway, a senior criminal justice major from North Huntingdon, Pa.
Ridgeway also is an RA in Beta Hall where he can’t have pets but he intends to bring his lab mix breed dog to campus for the event.
“I’m a dog lover and really looking forward to the Pooch Pals 5K and I hope we get a good turn-out. All the money is going to a great cause of helping needy animals in shelters,” he said.
The dog walk will also feature an adoption event to help pets find a home.
Pre-registration is open now on the First Annual Pooch Pals 5K Facebook page.
Registration forms are also available in WLU Shaw Hall and at the local animal shelters. Tickets are $15 per person or $50 per family/team (up to five people + $10 for each additional person). Walk-ins are welcome the day of the walk but will be charged an extra $5 fee for an entire team.
Every runner will receive a special event T-shirt and there will be plenty of water stations for both participants and their pets.
All participants must follow the following rules:
- Must sign a waiver
- Must clean up after own pet
- Must bring copies of up to date shot records
- All dogs must be on a leash.
- Must be at least 10 years old to hold leashed dog.
No participant is permitted to bring dogs that are not well socialized and if a dog acts aggressive, it will have to go home.
