West Liberty University welcomes Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., to campus for the Gary E. West College of Business Executive Seminar Series, Monday, March 17.
The seminar begins at 2 p.m., in College Hall and is open to students and staff only.
“We’re honored to have Congresswoman Capito as our executive series speaker and I thank her for fitting us into her busy schedule. Her knowledge of the current business climate, national issues and political insight will be timely and important for our students,” said Associate Professor Dave Wright, who is coordinating the visit, which was originally scheduled for last fall but was delayed due to Capito’s Congressional duties.
Wright teaches business management and hopes that all of his business students will take the opportunity to hear from Capito.
If time permits, there will be questions taken from students in the audience.
Currently serving as the U.S. Representative for West Virginia’s 2nd congressional district since 2001, Capito is the daughter of three-term governor Arch Moore and announced her candidacy for Senate in November 2012. She is seeking the seat currently held by Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., who has announced he is retiring.
She has been an advocate for a range of policies that directly impact her constituents, including energy independence, quality healthcare and the safety and security of our service men and women. She prides herself on being approachable and accessible to her constituents and she is currently the only woman in West Virginia’s congressional delegation.
Capito serves on the House Financial Services Committee as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit. She also sits on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure – which will direct important highway legislation during the 113th Congress.
When not in Washington, Rep. Capito regularly travels her 17-county district to meet with her constituents and local leaders.
Capito lives in Charleston with her husband, Charles L. Capito. They have three children: sons Charles (and his wife Laura) and Moore (and his wife Katie), and one daughter, Shelley. They have also been blessed with a grandson and a granddaughter.
Capito graduated from Duke University with a Bachelor of Science in zoology and holds a Master of Education from the University of Virginia. For more information on Capito, please visit her official website.
