WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., May 9, 2017 — As the academic year draws to a close, Student Government Association leaders were recognized during the May 4 Honors Convocation with an official swearing-in ceremony.
President David “Reid” Boden and Vice President Adam Croasmun were elected by students in April. Executive Director of Housing and Student Life Marcella Snyder, who acts as an advisor to the SGA, administered the oaths of office.
“I’m proud to serve a second term as president at West Liberty University. It’s a special place for me and I feel I’ve learned a lot this year during my first term as president. I’m excited about working with Adam and I encourage the students to let us know what they think since we benefit from their comments and feedback,” Boden said.
As they plan for next year, the two officers agree that they are passionate about the Hilltop.
Boden, will be a junior next fall and is a secondary history education major from Keyser, West Virginia. He plans on becoming a high school history teacher or school administrator after gradution.
Also a Resident Assistant, he is member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, the Kappa Delta Pi honor society and the College Republicans. Boden is an enthusiastic student who believes in getting involved and making the most of the college experience.
Croasmun is from Paden City, W.Va. and is majoring in Elementary Education. He also serves as a Resident Assistant.
“I’m really focused on transparency with the student body and making sure everyone’s opinion is heard,” Croasmun said. His is a WLU family, since his brother Eric served as SGA vice president at WLU, in 2012 – 2013.
Starting on Monday, May 15, the new officers will attend the annual West Virginia Student Leadership Conference in Jackson Mill, W.Va. The conference is sponsored by the West Virginia Community and Technical College System (WVCTCS) and the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission (WVHEPC).
Other SGA officers elected and confirmed for 2017 – 2018 include Treasurer Zach Rhodes of Chester, W.Va., Secretary Chelsea Williams, Follansbee, W.Va. and Director of Programming Ashley Pryor of New Cumberland, W.Va.
SGA continually works with administrators and acts as bridges of communication between students and administration. SGA also develops creative programming for students to keep the student experience the best it can possibly be.
The association governs itself on three overarching principles: service, leadership and integrity. Its office is located on the second floor of the College Union building.
