WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Sept. 6, 2017 — Greek life at college means many things to students. It’s a chance to make lifelong friends and network, enjoy events and perform service.

For the sisters of Beta Rho Epsilon (BPE) one of its recent projects was donating cancer care kits to Wheeling Hospital Schiffler Cancer Center.

“This was our third annual donation of kits to Schiffler Cancer Center and we hope that this gift provides some comfort to the patients,” said Mia Huck, outgoing philanthropy chairwoman at BPE.

A resident of Wheeling, Huck graduated from WLU this past May with a degree in education. She now works full-time in Ohio County Schools, teaching autistic students.

This particular sorority has a strong focus on philanthropy and also coordinates an annual Relay for Life event in the spring. Several dozen women are in the sorority and many of them are education majors.

“Each of the kits we prepared included personal care items, healthy snacks, stationery and a handwritten, inspirational quote. We are just so happy to offers a small token of caring to these cancer patients,” said Huck.

Established in 2009 at WLU, BPE is a local sorority that raises funds and awareness in the fight against cancer as part of its mission. Its current president is senior Olivia Best of Wellsburg.
