West Liberty University Art Department is hosting its senior art exhibition from April 23 – May 8 in the Nutting Gallery. A festive opening will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 23. It is open to the public.
The show features the talents of nine senior graphic design students who are expected to graduate May 10.
The featured seniors are Ryan Bland (Bridgeport, W.Va.), Richard Clifford (Wheeling), Anthony DiFabio (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Brandi Hollingshead (Bridgeport, Ohio), Corrine Martin (Berkley Springs, W.Va.), Justyne Obeldobel (Wellsburg, W.Va.), Lindsay Riggs (New Martinsville, W.Va.), Sean Ritner (Wheeling) and Alex Wright (Bellaire, Ohio).
“The senior exhibition is important academically because it is a capstone experience for our graphic designers and art educators,” said Brian Fencl, chair of the Department of Journalism, Communication Studies and Visual Art. “It is also a celebration of these students and their commitment to their creativity, passion and chosen fields.”
The annual art exhibition showcases the skills learned by each senior graphic design student while at West Liberty. Those skills include screen-printing, linocuts and detailed illustrations.
“The idea behind my portion of the show is interactivity. I want to draw the people who come into the gallery and come up to my piece,” said senior graphic design student Corrine Martin. “My design is unusual in that it is very functional and interactive.”
There is no admission fee to attend the event. Light refreshments will be provided.
