WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Dec. 18, 2015 — West Liberty University Student Success Center is ready and willing to assist students with college life, academics and career building.
Alumna Elizabeth “Liz” Richter was hired recently and is happy to be a part of the Learning and Student Development team, serving as student support coordinator. She works on increasing student retention and assists students on academic probation.
“I’m here to help students who may be struggling. I also do proactive work to increase our students success, such as sending a digital newsletter to parents with tips on helping their students, facts about exams, classes and so forth,” she said.
Prior to her position in the Student Success Center, Richter worked at Oglebay Resort and Conference Center as a front desk supervisor. Before that she was billing auditor and administrative assistant at the resort, working at the resort for a total of five years.
“I’m pleased to be working with students and look forward to assisting them with academics as they adjust to college life,” she said. Student retention is vital to both students and colleges, since a university is often judged by how well it does at retaining students.
“Providing quality support services is our top priority in the Student Success Center. Our services help students develop the knowledge base, skills, and strategies to become confident, independent, and active learners. Liz has been a great addition to our team. Her fervent approach towards helping student succeed is an asset to the center,” said Director Bridgette Dawson who leads the center.
Richter earned her bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies with an emphasis on music and theatre in 2015. A resident of Wheeling, she is married to playwright Jeremy Richter and together they have a son. She also has three stepchildren.
The Student Success Center is committed to motivating students to be successful and provides avenues for academic and cultural support. It also develops opportunities for connecting students to the community.
