WEST LIBERTY, Aug. 22, 2016 — West Liberty University welcomed new faculty and staff as the 2016 – 2017 Academic year began with classes starting on Aug. 20 at the Highlands Center and Aug. 22 on the main campus.
New faculty members include:
Dr. Stephanie Bradley, program director and assistant professor of Speech Pathology and Audiology, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in speech pathology and audiology from WLU and a doctoral degree in audiology from the University of Akron. She then completed a fellowship through the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. She formerly worked as an audiologist at Allegheny General Hospital and was a territory sales representative for Siemens Hearing Instruments. Bradley holds a West Virginia and Pennsylvania license in Audiology. Also a member of the American Academy of Audiology and American Speech-Language and Hearing Association, she also is employed at Beltone Audiology and Hearing Aid Center.
Dr. Corey Call, assistant professor of criminal justice, earned bachelor’s degrees in criminal justice and psychology, a master’s in criminal justice, and a doctorate in public policy and administration from Virginia Commonwealth University. His research interests center on sex offending and sex offender management policies. His research appears in journals such as The American Journal of Criminal Justice, Criminal Justice Review, The International Journal of Offender Therapy and Comparative Criminology, and other outlets.
Kristie Meintel, clinical instructor and clinical coordinator for the Physician Assistant Master’s Program, is a graduate of Alderson-Broaddus with a Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant Studies degree, and has clinical experience in the field of emergency medicine.
Jason Metz, assistant professor of Exercise Physiology, earned a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Frostburg State University, a master’s degree in Exercise Science from California University of Pennsylvania and is now completing a doctoral degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Pittsburgh. He has trained and consulted with professional and Olympic level athletes and currently works on cancer research at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Tonda Stauffer, assistant professor Physician Assistant Studies master’s program, earned a Master of Physician Assistant Studies degree at the University of Nebraska and a Bachelor of Health Science degree at Alderson-Broaddus College. She has practiced as a PA for 25 years, working clinically in surgery and Obstetrics & Gynecology. Past education experience includes clinical preceptor of PA and nurse practitioner students as well as residents. She also works at Dr. Catherine Coleman’s OB/GYN office and in labor and delivery at Wheeling Hospital.
Erin Thornburg, mathematics instructor, earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Washington and Jefferson College and a master’s in education from Walden University. She has previously taught high school mathematics for 12 years and most recently was the Basic Skills Education Program instructor for soldiers at the Fort Drum, N.Y. military base.
Kylie Updegraff, assistant professor of nursing, earned a master of science in nursing from Wheeling Jesuit University. Previously, she was the health and nutrition coordinator at Northern Panhandle Head Start.
New staff members include:
Melanie Cheek, assistant athletic trainer, earned her bachelor’s at WLU. After working briefly at West Liberty University, she returned to school to earn a master’s degree in Athletic Training from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. She obtained an internship in WLU’s Athletic Training Department. Most recently, she worked as the on-staff athletic trainer at Southpointe Chiropractic and Fitness.
Daniel Eastham, Campus Police officer, earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Columbia Southern University in Orange Beach, Ala. Prior to coming to WLU, he was a patrolman for the McMechen Police Department.
Stewart Jones, head men’s and women’s cross country and track coach, earned a bachelor’s degree in Theology with a minor in Theological Studies at Wheeling Jesuit University. A 3-time NCAA Division II All-American and 2-time West Virginia Conference Male Track Athlete of the Year, Jones holds a USATF Level One coaching certification and continues to compete as one of the top distance runners in the region.
Lucy Kefauver, director of Distance Education, office of eLearning, holds a bachelor of science degree in management from Wheeling Jesuit University; a Master of Arts degree in communication studies with an emphasis in instructional communication; and a Master of Arts degree in instructional design and technology, both from West Virginia University. She has earned certifications as a quality matters peer reviewer, a faculty developer, and in career pathways leadership. She is a West Virginia Community and Technical Colleges Chancellor’s Leadership Fellow. Most recently she was the instructional designer on a federal grant at West Virginia Northern Community College and has enjoyed speaking at local, state, and national events. She continues to teach public speaking and interpersonal communication at WVNCC.
Kim Lemley, senior accountant, earned a bachelor’s in accounting and business administration from Malone University in Canton, Ohio and a Master’s of Business Administration from Franciscan University of Steubenville. Prior to coming to WLU, she was a tax examiner for the state of West Virginia in the Unemployment Compensation Audit and Compliance division of WORKFORCE West Virginia.
Connie McVicar, student records assistant for the Physician Assistant Studies Master Degree Program, is an alumna of the University of Cincinnati, with a bachelor’s degree in speech pathology and audiology. Previously, McVicar was a manufacturing supervisor for Lucent Technologies. Since her retirement from Lucent, she has held various part-time positions; most recently in housekeeping with WFF Facilities Management (WLU).
Laura Musilli, senior accountant, earned her MBA degree in accounting from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Prior to coming to WLU, she was a senior auditor at Ohio State University.
William Piccard, Campus Police officer, graduated from West Virginia Police Academy in 1993. Prior to coming to WLU, he was a patrolman for the Benwood Police Department. In addition to being a patrolman he has worked as a paramedic and a lieutenant at various police departments.
West Liberty University employs approximately 273 employees and is a forward-looking, four-year public university steeped in a rich heritage as West Virginia’s oldest institution of higher education.
