West Liberty University invited members of the West Virginia Legislature to the Hilltop Wednesday, Nov. 13.
Attending the event, organized by Vice President of Community Engagement Jeff Knierim, were state Sens. Rocky Fitzsimmons, D-Ohio and Jack Yost, D-Brooke; and Delegates Ryan Ferns, D-Ohio, Erikka Storch, R-Ohio, David Evans, R- Marshall and Phil Diserio, D-Brooke.
Offering the law makers a chance to tour the soon-to-open Campbell Hall of Health Sciences, historic Shaw Hall and other areas of campus, the gathering gave the dignitaries a chance to view the ongoing growth and improvement to the University, as they prepare for the upcoming January start of the 2014 legislative session.
Legislative Day ended with a luncheon at Gary E. West Event Center that included students, parents, faculty and staff representatives.
Along with the luncheon there was an informal program of conversation with the legislators. Each invited guest had an opportunity to speak and present their thoughts on West Virginia Higher Education and the current issues facing it. Legislators responded and offered their opinions. Individuals also had a chance to speak with their representatives after the luncheon on a one-to-one basis.
