WEST LIBERTY, Oct. 3, 2017 — West Liberty University celebrates Homecoming 2017 with a variety of student, alumni and community events but none is more important than the selection of the Homecoming King and Queen.
SGA Director of Programming Ashley Pryor and President Adam Croasmun encourage all students to enjoy Homecoming 2017!
“We have nine candidate couples and lots of activities planned, starting with the tradition of Serenades, which offers the candidates a chance to perform in public and get their names out there to all our students. We have 400 tickets for this event and it attracts lots of students,” said Ashley Pryor, director of programming for the Student Government Association (SGA).
2017 King and Queen candidates and the organization they represent include:

- Amanda Barath and Brandon Morrison – Delta Theta Kappa & Football
- Kayce Neely and Bryce Coleman – Cheerleading & Wrestlers
- Meredith Garner and Jeremiah Ortiz – Lambda Psi Sigma & Football
- Elissabeth Parsons and James Powell – Independent & Independent
- MaClay Moore and Solan Mueller – Independent & Independent
- Olivia Best and Bailey McGrath – Beta Rho Epsilon & Theta Xi
- Chelsea Williams and Billy Campbell – Alpha Xi Delta & Phi Delta Theta
- Anna Malone and Dylan Anderson – Kappa Phi & Fellowship of Christian Athletes
Homecoming activities kick off with the traditional student serenade competition that begins at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10, in College Hall. Each homecoming candidate pair is given a theme to develop into entertainment for the Serenades and judges are WLU employees, Kate Billings, President Stephen Greiner, Marcella Snyder and Jared Thompson.
Throughout the day, from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 11, candidates will be campaigning on the quad, offering free goodies, including gifts and food, hoping to be elected. Students also vote for their choice of king and queen on Wednesday.
At 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 12 all the candidates are invited to attend a dinner hosted by the WLU Student Government in the Boyle Room.
Finally, on Friday Oct. 13, Homecoming candidates take part in a community service project and clean up the Town of West Liberty.
At 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 14, the Hilltopper Homecoming Parade will start the festivities of homecoming day off appropriately. Students and alumni are invited to tailgate before and during the homecoming game Hilltoppers take on the Glenville State Pioneers, with kick-off at 1 p.m. at the West Family Stadium. Tailgating, with family-friendly activities for all ages, begins at 10 a.m.
The West Liberty University Homecoming King and Queen will be announced during halftime at the football game. Students end their homecoming festivities with a 10 p.m. – 2 a.m. dance at WLU’s Academic, Sports and Recreation Complex (ASRC).
