Faculty Recital Features Percussion

January 13, 2016 By Maureen Zambito

WEST LIBERTY, Jan. 13, 2016 — West Liberty University will present a Faculty Percussion Recital featuring the talented Brian Baldauff at 5 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 16 in College Hall. The concert is free and open to all.

“I’ll be presenting some great pieces for percussion instruments by Thomas, Akiho, Hamilton, and Kitazume, along with a transcription by J.S. Bach. Come hear a variety of instruments and styles,” said Professor Baldauff who instructs percussion students and directs the athletic bands.Brian Baldauff

Baldauff is a versatile performer whose interests span contemporary and historic percussion literature, electronic sound and conducting. Active as a performer of solo, orchestral, and chamber music, he has performed with the Florida Gulf Coast, Lansing and Brevard Symphonies.

As a founding member of the Denkyem Percussion Group, he toured Costa Rica performing concerts and teaching masterclasses. In 2005, he performed at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention as a featured artist. He frequently presents clinics, lectures, and performances at high schools and colleges across the country.

A multi-percussionist, specializing in keyboard and marching percussion, Baldauff has served on the instructional staff for both the Teal Sound Drum and Bugle Corps (Jacksonville, Fla.) and the Boston Crusaders, and was the Graduate Teaching Assistant for the Florida State University Marching Chiefs “Big 8” drum line.

He was awarded first place in both the 2003 and 2004 PASIC Keyboard Individuals, and in 2010 was selected for and competed in the semi-final round of the Southern California Marimba Competition.

He also serves as president of the West Virginia chapter of the Percussive Arts Society.

Baldauff completed his undergraduate work in music education at the University of Central Florida and received his Masters of Music in Percussion Performance from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He is currently a Doctor of Music candidate at the Florida State University.

The Division of Music at West Liberty University offers undergraduate degrees in Music Education, Music Performance, and Music Technology. Among its many ensembles are College Community Chorus, Wind Ensemble, WLU Singers, Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Hilltop Opera and The Hilltopper Marching Band.

In case of inclement weather, the concert will be rescheduled (check westliberty.edu/music). For more information on WLU, please call 1.866.WESTLIB.
