Dr. Terry Wallace Joins Coalition to Promote Better Learning

January 25, 2013 By Maureen Zambito

West Liberty University’s Dr. Terry Wallace joined the Time to Succeed coalition recently and is featured on their website. As an educational expert with many years of teaching and administrative work in the public school system, Wallace supports the effort to change education in ways that include expanded learning time.Terry Wallace

“Time to Succeed coalition seeks to make sure that every student has the right opportunity to learn. Sometimes that includes more hours of instruction. I’m pleased to be a part of this effort,” said Wallace, who is a Senior Fellow in West Liberty University’s Institute for Innovation in Education.

The Time to Succeed Coalition is a broad and diverse coalition working to ensure that all children in our nation’s high-poverty communities have more and better learning time in school to prepare them for success. It provides a unified voice calling on policymakers at the local, state, and federal levels to ensure that students have the time they need to succeed in school and beyond and supports the growing movement to expand learning time in communities across the country.

The Time to Succeed Coalition also represents a partnership between National Center on Time & Learning (NCTL) and the Ford Foundation. NCTL is a nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding learning time to improve student achievement and enable a well-rounded education. An independent, nonprofit grant-making organization, the Ford Foundation provides strategic and financial support to the Time to Succeed Coalition.

The mission of West Liberty University’s Institute for Innovation in Education is to advance education through innovation in teaching, learning, leadership and entrepreneurship and to develop new plans and programs to advance the academic mission of WLU and support the advancement of education in our region, our state and our nation.

Wallace holds advanced degrees from Ohio University, George Peabody College for Teachers at Vanderbilt University and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Wallace has served in cabinet positions in Ohio, as a healthcare CEO and a senior school district administrator. He is a longtime member of the graduate faculty at Muskingum University, has taught at universities in four states, is a licensed school superintendent in three states and writes syndicated monthly newspaper columns on a variety of public policy issues.
