Dr. Tammy McClain Offers Professional Insight In Article Addressing Personal Finance

April 24, 2013 By Maureen Zambito

Dr. Tammy McClain, associate professor of psychology at West Liberty University, recently provided expert commentary when she interviewed for an article published by Card Hub, an online credit card resource. Card Hub called on national experts in marketing and psychology to respond to the topic of debt in the article, “Did the Great Recession Teach Us Nothing About the Dangers of Debt?”

“I was pleased to comment on this topic that impacts so many. Overspending and debt in a consumer based culture is a subject of discussion in many circles, and as a psychologist, I’m acutely aware of the stress it adds to people’s lives,” said McClain.

McClain serves as the interim chairperson of the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences and joined WLU in 2006. She has been teaching in the psychology program and serving in various professional roles on campus and in the community, during this time.

Most recently she completed a year of leadership training as one of WLU’s inaugural group of Executive Fellows offering selected faculty an opportunity to learn both the academic and administrative operations of the University.

McClain also has a contract to publish a textbook in the next year entitled, “Personality Psychology Case Analysis Workbook.” In addition to her work at WLU, she is a licensed clinical psychologist and provides contractual psychological services to local agencies.

She obtained her Doctor of Psychology degree from Wright State University School of Professional Psychology in Dayton, Ohio in 1994.  She has worked continuously in the field of clinical psychology since obtaining her doctoral degree and has worked in a variety of settings including community mental health, state and private hospitals, nursing homes and in private practice.

McClain has clinical experience in psychological assessment and psychotherapy, as well as consultation, supervision, administration and training.  Her specialty areas include psychological assessment for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and court-requested parental fitness evaluations.  She has periodically testified in court as an expert witness and has been called upon to provide psychological insights.
