Dr. Carrie White Appointed Chair of Statewide Entrepreneurship Effort for “Vision Shared”

January 30, 2015 By Maureen Zambito

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Jan. 30, 2015 — West Virginia’s Vision Shared appointed West Liberty University professor, Dr. Carrie White, as chairwoman of its entrepreneurship committee recently. White is a professor with the Gary E. West College of Business, teaching business law and entrepreneurship.

Dr. Carrie White teaches class in the Gary E. West College of Business.

“It’s an honor to receive this appointment. I look forward to growing entrepreneurship across the state,” White said.

She also is the director of the WLU Center For Entrepreneurship, which offers an Entrepreneurship Curriculum open to students from any academic discipline and sponsors new business pitch contests throughout the year.

“I am super excited to have Carrie leading our committee. Her energy and experience will be invaluable,” said President Cory Dennison of Charleston, who has led Vision Shared for about 10 months now.

White’s new duties entail leadership of its committee that “collaborates among entrepreneurship programs throughout the state, to help grow small businesses.”

White has taught at WLU since 2004. She earned a doctoral degree in education at West Virginia University, a Juris Doctor Degree at Duquesne University School of Law, and both an M.B.A. and bachelor’s degree at Franciscan University of Steubenville.

This past December, she met with Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin in Charleston, to further discuss the growth and vision for entrepreneurship and how government can assist startups with the many challenges that small business owners face.

Vision Shared was created in 2000 as a public-private partnership to bring together business, labor, government and other diverse interests to develop a strategy that will sustain West Virginia and make the state more economically competitive. Today, Vision Shared is a nonprofit organization dedicated to continuing that mission and building on the successes to date.

Activities are structured to help West Virginia achieve goals in four critical focus areas for economic development success, according to its website, visionshared.com. Each focus area has a specific goal that Vision Shared established for West Virginia, and each goal has a volunteer committee.

Entrepreneurs seeking more information should contact White at 304-336-8159 or at cwhite@westliberty.edu. For more information on Vision Shared, visit its website.
