WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Feb. 10, 2015 — West Liberty University’s Concert Artist Series presents the dynamic new trio of flute, piano and percussion musicians as “ASS3MBLY” takes the stage, at 7 p.m., on Friday, Feb. 20, in Elbin Auditorium.

Free and open to the public, the performance will include six newly written works by living composers in a 90-minute touring program entitled, “Hot Off the Press.” It features the world premiere performances of Brooklyn-based composed Randall Woolf’s latest piece, Between Me, Myself, And The Lamp Post, as well as signature ASS3MBLY commissions by American composers Ty Alan Emerson, Erich Stem, and John Allemeier. Rounding out the versatile program are two duos by Pulitzer Prize-winner Kevin Puts and Gareth Farr.
ASS3MBLY is a dynamic new trio championing the chamber music of our time for flute, piano, and percussion. Comprised of flutist Lindsey Goodman (solo flutist, Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble), percussionist Scott Christian (principal timpanist, West Virginia Symphony Orchestra), and pianist Anne Waltner (assistant professor, Eastern Mennonite University),
ASS3MBLY has been presented by the Charleston Chamber Music Society (W.Va.), Fresh Ink Music Series (N.C.), Marietta College’s Esbenshade Series (Ohio), West Virginia State University, and the Kanawha Forum and Kanawha Forum 2.0 (W.Va.). Promoting both fresh and iconic works by master composers like Morton Feldman through exemplary live performances, ASS3MBLY is equally passionate about creating new music, with three world premiere commissions under their belts.
The group will make two tours across four states before the end of the 2014 – 2015 season, including concerts on the Ariel Theatre Chamber Series (Ohio), the Studio Subscription Series (S.D.), Marshall University’s Festival of New Music (W.Va.) and Eastern Mennonite University’s Faculty Artist Performance Series (Va.). In addition to concert activities, the trio has recently recorded John Allemeier’s Bolamkin and will record Pulitzer Prize-winner Joseph Schwantner’s Taking Charge this spring, both for an upcoming CD release, and gives panel presentations on chamber music, commissioning, and entrepreneurship while engaging in educational outreach for high school and collegiate music students.
WLU’s Concert Artist Series is organized and sponsored by the Division of Music which is part of the Department of Music and Theater and dates back to 1964.
