WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Sept. 1, 2015 — The 52nd Season of great entertainment begins on Sept. 9 at West Liberty University with its Concert Artist Series. The best part is that all performances are free and open to the public.

C-Street Brass

C-Street Brass

C Street Brass, the ensemble in residence at Carnegie Mellon University for three years, proudly calls Pittsburgh home. If you hear brass music coming from downtown, chances are it’s the C Street Brass playing on the street honing material for a new show. Aside from busking, house parties, and club dates with their alter-ego, C Street Brass has been on a variety of chamber music series including: Corpus Christi Chamber Music Series, Corpus Christi, Texas, Community Concerts Second Series, Baltimore Md., and their own series at Carnegie Mellon. In addition to being in residence at Carnegie Mellon, C Street Brass has also held residencies at WBJC the Classical Radio voice of Baltimore, Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church in Bethesda, Md.

Recently the group has held shorter-term residencies focused on education in Orcas Island Washington, Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pa. and they look forward to returning to University of South Carolina. Internationally, C Street Brass has toured in Tbilisi, Georgia as resident ensemble of the Traveling Notes Music Festival in 2012 and to Doha, Qatar in 2013 as ambassadors for Carnegie Mellon University.

C Street Brass loves collaborating with other artists to create new exciting concert atmospheres for our audiences.

In 2010 the group premiered “Two Pieces for Brass Quintet and Organ” by composer David Conte with famous organist and scholar Donald Sutherland. Recently, C Street Brass has been working closely with DJ Jakeisrain blending different genres of classical music with current electronic dance music to create their alter ego, Beauty Slap.

The David Leonhardt Jazz Trio, 8 p.m, Monday, Nov. 23, Elbin Auditorium, College Hall.

West Virginia Dance Company

The company is comprised of highly trained, professional dancers, whose repertoire includes works influenced by West Virginia’s rich cultural heritage and various cultures from across the globe.

WVDC is the only professional touring dance company in the history of the Mountain State. The company has performed extensively in West Virginia and fourteen other states, as well as in Brazil.

At the height of its touring season, approximately 30,000 students are reached through the art of dance each year, according to its website, wvdanceco.com.

All Concert Artist Series programs are sponsored by the Division of Music at West Liberty University and offer WLU theatre and music students a chance to benefit from performances and workshops with many of the artists.

The Concert Artist Series dates back to 1964. Each year, the series brings world-class musicians and performing artists to the Hilltop campus for public concerts and artist master classes for students.
