April 30, 2013 By Maureen Zambito

West Liberty University’s Concert Choir, under the direction of Dr. Alfred de Jaager, will present its festive “Farewell” Concert prior to departing for a musical tour of Spain, at 7 p.m., Friday, May 10.

The Concert Choir is shown in the Cathedral of St. Joseph, during a previous concert. The 2013 concert is at 7 p.m., Friday, May 10.

The Concert Choir is shown in the Cathedral of St. Joseph, during a previous concert.

The performance will take place in the Cathedral of St. Joseph, 13th and Eoff streets, Wheeling, and is open to the public. The program will consist of songs the choir will perform while on tour in Spain, May 12 – 21, and will include both sacred and secular compositions.

“We are performing a varied repertoire during our European tour. We’ll start in Barcelona, then perform in Valencia and end in Madrid. While in Madrid we will also visit Toledo. There will be one formal concert in each of the three main cities,” said de Jaager, who is director of choral activities.

In addition, the choir will perform an informal, 20-minute concert at the famous Sagrada Familia Basilica in Barcelona.

There are 25 singers in the WLU 2013 concert choir, which includes one full-time faculty member, Dr. Linda Cowan, and one adjunct faculty member who is also an alumnus, Ryan Keeling.

Five of the 23 student singers will graduate on May 11. Student singers include: Michael Anderson, Celesta Berga, Alan Cline, Kyle Cook, Michael Matthias Dotson, Carrie George, Amanda Goodfellow, Gregory Gust, Cassandra Hackbart, Job Hadley, Andrew Leaptrot, Erin Mazzocca, Mitchell Moon, Joshua Morgan, Michael Murphy, Daniel Nixon, Anthony Panebianco, Graham Parks, Lois Alexandra Perkins, Jeffrey Tice, Kassidy Wells, Timothi Williams and Kimberly Wolfe.

Began in 2007, the WLU Concert Choir spring tour gives students a chance to perform in varied settings for international audiences and enjoy a memorable educational experience.
