Campus Lights Up Blue in Support of Autism

April 2, 2018 By Maureen Zambito

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., April 2, 2018 — Alpha Xi Delta sorority is planning a Light Up Blue night in support of Autism Speaks, the national autism awareness organization.

From left, Taylor Curry, President Stephen Greiner, Megan Lees and Fallyn Yonish discuss the Light Up Blue night, while President Greiner and Megan make the Alpha Xi sign in .

“Our sorority helps to spread the message about autism and supports the work of Autism Speaks, a national organization. We invite everyone to join us at 7 p.m., Tuesday in the Breezeway and around the WLU Fire Pit as we raise awareness and have some fun for this important cause,” said Taylor Curry, a sophomore nursing student from Columbus, Ohio. Curry is the financial vice president of the sorority.

She is joined by two of her sorority sisters, Megan Lees, a junior criminal justice major from Wellsburg, W.Va., and Fallyn Yonish, a sophomore elementary education major from Wheeling in planning the event.

President Stephen Greiner will join the sorority and throw the switch for blue lights in the Breezeway and the WLU Fire Pit and activities continue until 9 pm.

Everyone is invited to enjoy the fun as the sorority sponsors activities and quarter games on the Breezeway and around the new fire pit. Blue glow sticks, desserts and blue Kool-Aid also will be available to guests.

The sorority’s efforts at autism awareness continue all month long, according to Taylor.

Tonight there is a dine to donate fundraiser at Texas Roadhouse, from 4 – 8 p.m., and later this month, on April 14, another dine to donate will take place at Tudor’s Biscuit World, 3620 Main St., Weirton.

On Wednesday, April 18, the sorority will sell blue snowcones in the College Union and on April 26, they are planning a football frenzy game where all proceeds go to Autism Speak. Anyone who signs up to play pays a fee, according to Yonish who is the vice president of philanthropy.

“We are looking forward to a successful month of supporting this worthy cause and we thank everyone in advance for their help. We especially thank President Greiner for throwing the switch and helping us on our Light Up Blue night,” Yonish added.

Alpha Xi Delta is a national sorority and that supports Autism Speaks, the advocacy organization that sponsors research, awareness and outreach for families and the public. It is the sorority’s national philanthropy.
