The award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the state of West Virginia and brought positive attention to the state.
A number of Montgomery’s former players joined current students and area leaders for the ceremony, which was held during an assembly at the John Marshall High School Auditorium.
A five-time West Virginia Coach of the Year, Montgomery has averaged more than 21 wins a season throughout his 38 years as head baseball coach at the Marshall County consolidation. He ranks among the nation’s top 30 active coaches with more than 800 career victories.
