If we’ve learned anything from these interesting times, it’s how important communication is to how we live our lives. It’s easy to take it for granted when all of your speech comes out the right way, you can hear everything clearly, you have no problem communicating and putting your thoughts into words. With West Liberty University’s Speech & Hearing Clinic, we’re working to make that privilege into a goal attainable by anyone.
That’s why we’re pleased to be able to offer an affordable and accessible way for our community and students on campus to receive the help they need from our Speech Pathology and Audiology faculty and supervised students.
Audiological Evaluations
We offer a comprehensive audiological evaluation, which is a series of diagnostic procedures that can determine the severity and type of an individual’s hearing and understanding status. The clinic accepts self-referrals, physician referrals, and referrals from other healthcare professionals.
Speech and Language Evaluations
A speech and language evaluation is a series of diagnostic procedures used to determine the status of an individual’s communication needs. Our clinic is currently accepting pediatric patients ages 3-18. As with our Audiological Evaluations, we accept self-referrals, physician referrals, and referrals from other health care professionals.
Available Treatments
Articulation
Articulation is the formation of clear and distinct speech sounds. Disorders or delays of this type are often characterized by additions, substitutions, omissions, or distortions of speech. Treatment in articulation often targets specific deviations or groups of sounds with similar patterns.
Language
A language disorder may involve the content, form, or use of language. Treatments can include stimulation of specific language forms and the development of skills to allow an individual to participate in everyday communication.
Fluency
Fluency is the smoothness or flow with which syllables, words, and phrases are joined together. Disorders in fluency often include stuttering and cluttering. Treatment of fluency involves the teaching of strategies needed and decrease the patient’s pathologies.
Voice
Voice refers to the pitch, quality, tone, loudness, or duration of one’s voice. A voice disorder may include any or all of these characteristics interfering with a person’s ability to speak. Treatment may include techniques to address the disorders and contributing vocal habits.
