West Liberty University is proud to welcome Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist, short story writer and West Virginia native Jayne Anne Phillips as part of our Hughes Lecture Series.
Phillips was awarded the 2024 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for Night Watch—a mesmerizing story set in West Virginia about a mother and daughter seeking refuge in the chaotic aftermath of the Civil War.
Join us as Phillips will read from Night Watch, speak about her life as an author and W. Va. native, and share a presentation of research images from the novel. Special guest, West Virginia Poet Laureate Marc Harshman, will introduce Phillips.
The Hughes Lecture Series is named for Dr. Raymond Grove Hughes and made possible through his generous bequest managed by the West Liberty University Foundation.
