SUMMER
- Approve and file Summer syllabi (per Policy 247)
- Attend summer transfer/freshman orientation days and meetings, as scheduled by the Admissions Office/Registrar
- Identify adjuncts for Fall if needed (ideally completed in Spring)
- Update handbooks, orientation notes, advising sheets
- Collaborate with Office Graduate Studies on graduate assistant orientation
- Schedule department/program orientation (week before fall classes begin)
FALL
- Attend/schedule opening meetings (University/College/Program/Student)
- Approve and file Fall syllabi (per Policy 247)
- Update website and other materials as needed (i.e. new/changes in personnel, update directory, etc.)
- Attend Black & Gold Days as scheduled by the Admissions Office/Registrar
- Schedule at least one program/department meeting (per Procedure 205)
- Assign faculty advisors/advisees (remind faculty to reach out to advisees)
- Create student organization meeting/event list (encourage attendance in relevant intro level courses & other interested students)
- Remind faculty that syllabi are due in Sakai by first day of classes & office hours posted outside of office door
- Approve Department or Program Performance Factors (Policy 214: due 2nd Friday in September)
- Update Faculty Letter of Appointment (Policy 208) as needed, “no later than the Faculty Performance Planning meeting.” Related, from Policy 214 : “In an initial Letter of Appointment (LOA), established no later than the end of the first semester of employment and approved by the Provost, the responsible University administrator (usually the Dean) shall define the general terms of the faculty member’s major responsibilities.”
- Meet individually with all full-time faculty to review and approve Faculty Performance Planning Document (FPPD) by the last Friday in September (per Policy 214)
- Review and approve all FPPDs and submit to dean by the first Friday in October (per Policy 214)
- Work on department/program budget, per Procedure 10; due in spring semester (February)
- Notify affected faculty of college tenure and promotion committee decisions by December 6, (per Policy 217)
- Approve or deny faculty applications for sabbatical by December 15 (per Policy 223)
- Complete faculty course observations as needed (per Policy 214)
- Midterm grades (~ week 7 or 8; remind adjuncts if needed)
- Complete Spring/Summer course schedule (~ week 5; review/finalize and adjust as needed)
- Spring/Summer textbook adoptions due
- Assist faculty advisors with preregistration/advising for spring/summer
- Remind faculty to update personnel file (per Policy 213)
- Final Grades (remind adjuncts as needed)
SPRING
- Attend/schedule opening meetings (University/College/Program/Student)
- Approve and file spring syllabi (per Policy 247)
- Attend Black & Gold Days as scheduled by the Admissions Office/Registrar
- Schedule at least one program/department meeting (per Procedure 205)
- Issue recommendation to dean for tenure/promotion cases by January 22 (per Policy 217)
- Create student organization meeting/event list (for interested students)
- Work on budget: per Procedure 10, due in February. On or before April 1st of each year, the President’s Cabinet shall prepare a proposed high-level budget for the next fiscal year. Deans will ask Chairs for Program budget priorities.
- Complete Fall course schedule, update Summer I needed (~ week 5)
- Complete faculty course observations as needed (per Policy 214)
- Remind faculty to update personnel file (per Policy 213) before completing Faculty Performance Activity Report (FPAR)
- Schedule and hold FPAR meetings with all full-time faculty: per Policy 214, FPAR form due to Chair by 2nd Friday in April. Evaluation conferences with faculty/chair due by first Friday in May and sent to the Dean. Dean approval is due by the third Friday in May. All completed FPARs from the Dean are due to Provost by last Friday in May
- Summer/Fall Textbook adoptions
- Midterm grades (~ week 7 or 8)
- Assist faculty advisors with preregistration/advising for fall
- Review graduate applications
- Award Program/Department scholarships
- Student organization events (end of semester, new officers, paperwork)
- Final Grades
