WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Sept. 10, 2018 — West Liberty University moved up in this fall’s U.S. News and World Report Best Colleges publication, released today.

WLU moved up one place to the number six spot in Top Public Schools in Regional Colleges in the South, a list that includes schools from small liberal arts colleges to large research institutions. 

“West Liberty University provides a quality education at an affordable cost and our students can be assured that we will continue to do so. It is gratifying that the U.S. News and World Report continues to rank recognizes this fact,” said Dr. Stephen Greiner, WLU president.

U.S. News breaks out the numbers in a variety of ways to create its varied lists and in the list that reflects the Best Colleges in West Virginia, WLU remains ranked at the number two spot as it was last year. WLU also remained in the number 37 spot for the Best Regional Colleges in the South listing.

The U.S. News rankings, looks at colleges and universities across the nation and rank them according to established criteria and an annual U.S. News statistical report survey, completed by most colleges. U.S. News provides nearly 50 different types of numerical rankings and lists to help students narrow their college search. 

According to U.S. News, it breaks the overall college rankings into four categories: National Universities, National Liberal Arts Colleges, Regional Universities and Regional Colleges, then further delineates by regions. The lists focus on academic excellence, with schools ranked on up to 15 measures of academic quality and emphasize student outcomes. 

The first U.S. News Best Colleges rankings were published in 1983. 

West Liberty University is West Virginia’s oldest institution of higher education and offers nearly 70 undergraduate majors and 30 programs.

Graduate programs are growing and include degrees in biology, education, physician assistant studies, professional studies, online criminology, online MBA, and the newest graduate degree programs enrolling now for next fall, dental hygiene and clinical psychology.
